Recent years have shown that sustainability is a key factor in booking decisions. In fact, 81% of travelers said they plan to choose a sustainable accommodation option. As a result, many hotels already offer their guests the option to opt out of daily room cleaning.

This desire to conserve resources often clashes with the challenge of how to implement it in day-to-day hotel operations. After all, anyone offering guests sustainable options quickly faces an organizational question: How can this be reliably communicated to housekeeping? How is it documented? And how does it factor into sustainability reports or certification processes?
This is exactly where the new feature Green Option in SIHOT.PMS comes in.
The desire for sustainable travel not only influences booking decisions – it is also increasingly shaping guests’ expectations during their stay. Guests want to play an active role, not just be passive consumers. Hotels that credibly address this demand not only strengthen guest loyalty but also set themselves apart from the competition.
At the same time, pressure is mounting from certification bodies, travel booking platforms and corporate clients: Proof of sustainability is increasingly required in tenders and framework agreements. Hotels that merely communicate sustainability goals but cannot document them quickly fall behind in this regard.
The Green Option bridges exactly this gap: between what guests and partners expect and what hotels can reliably deliver on a daily basis.
The Green Option is a new feature in SIHOT.PMS that allows hotels to manage and transparently document guests’ voluntary opt-outs from room cleaning on a reservation-by-reservation basis.
Specifically, this means: If a guest chooses not to have their room cleaned on a particular day, that room is automatically excluded from the housekeeping schedule for that day. This eliminates the need for manual intervention as well as notes on the door that might be overlooked and the process runs directly within the system.
Automated Control of Housekeeping Scheduling
If the Green Option is enabled for a given day of stay, the room is not included in the cleaning schedule for that day. The room status remains unchanged according to the configuration, and depending on the settings, the room either does not appear on the cleaning list at all or continues to be marked as clean. In the long term, this ensures that both daily operational reports and future forecasts reflect the data accurately and consistently.
No parallel processes, no extra work
The Green Option is directly integrated into the operational workflows of SIHOT.PMS. Forecasts and cleaning schedules are automatically adjusted so that actual cleaning needs are reliably reflected at all times, without the need for additional manual intervention or separate systems.
Transparent Documentation for Sustainability Programs
Hotels receive a complete overview of all reservations for which the Green Option has been activated. This data can be used directly for internal sustainability reports, to document environmental initiatives, or to meet the requirements of certification programs.
The Green Option creates added value on three levels at once. For your guests, it offers an active and straightforward way to help conserve resources during their stay: transparently, without misunderstandings and in line with the growing awareness of sustainable travel.
Your housekeeping team benefits from clearly structured, automatically updated cleaning schedules that eliminate the need for manual adjustments. Staff scheduling becomes more realistic because actual cleaning needs are accurately reflected at all times and the coordination effort between the front desk and housekeeping is noticeably reduced.
At the same time, this provides hotel management with a reliable database: All reservations for which the Green Option has been activated are fully documented and can be used directly for sustainability reports, certification processes, or as evidence of environmental initiatives. For the first time, sustainability goals and day-to-day operations are truly converging.
The Green Option is a building block, but not a standalone feature. It is part of a growing trend that more hotels are strategically embracing: the systematic integration of sustainability goals into day-to-day operations.
Sustainability certifications such as EarthCheck or Green Globe require hotels not only to implement measures but also to provide valid proof of them. This is precisely where the Green Option’s strategic value lies: The data that the system automatically collects serves as the basis for reports that would otherwise have to be painstakingly compiled by hand.
Anyone who takes sustainability seriously needs processes that reflect that commitment in their day-to-day operations. The Green Option makes exactly that possible without any extra effort, without separate tools, and without gaps in documentation.
The Green Option shows what hotel technology should look like today: not as an added layer of complexity, but as a solution to real operational challenges. Skipping daily room cleaning has long been standard practice in many hotels. What was missing in many hotels was a process that implements this reliably, automatically and with proper documentation.
With the Green Option in SIHOT.PMS, exactly that is now possible. This allows you to directly align sustainability goals with smooth operational workflows without placing any additional burden on your team.

For years, sustainability in hospitality was often associated with visible environmental initiatives that remain important, but they no longer tell the whole story.

Hotels today face many challenges. Running a hotel is no longer just about allocating rooms and looking after guests. Processes must be designed efficiently, staff relieved, and at the same time an exceptional guest experience created.

Every hotelier knows that making payments easy is critical to success.
